West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection Issues Emergency Rule for Drillers

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection issued on August 22, 2011, an emergency rule that provides temporary regulations for Marcellus gas producers. The rule will last for 15 months and requires drillers to explain how they will protect the land, manage the water used in hydraulic fracturing, respond to accidents and inform the public of drilling operations. The regulations were developed in response to an executive order signed in July by acting Governor Earl Ray Tomblin.
