U.S. SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION WILL EXAMINE GREENHUNTER’S ABILITY TO BARGE FRACKING WASTE ON THE OHIO RIVER

On June 12, 2015, the FreshWater Accountability Project, a nonprofit organization, filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against GreenHunter Resources, Inc., for making false statements about authorization from the U.S. Coast Guard to barge fracking waste on the Ohio River.

On January 26, 2015, GreenHunter Resources announced in a News Release that USGS gave them the authorization to ship brines along the Ohio River, which is described by GreenHunter Resources as a “significant ‘win’ for both GreenHunter Resources and our valued clients”.

It has been reported that the USGS refuted having given such authorization and explained that they were still reviewing GreenHunter Resources’ request to carry shale gas extraction waste via barges on the Ohio River.

Further information is available at: http://www.fwap.org/sec-asked-to-investigate-greenhunter-llc/ and a copy of the U.S. Coast Guard 2013 proposed rule on “carriage of conditionally permitted shale gas extraction waste water in bulk” can be found at: https://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg521/docs/78FR64905.pdf.
