PA DEP to Release Technical Guidance for Wastewater Treatment

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced on November 3, 2011, that it will issue new technical guidance for wastewater treatment permitting. The guidance document will be published on November 12, 2011 and will explain revisions to sections of the Pennsylvania Code that require sources of natural gas wastewater to "treat the wastewater to the federal drinking water standard of less than 500 milligrams per liter of total dissolved solids prior to discharge." According to DEP's press release, the purpose of the revision is to ensure that drinking water and water sources through the state are not "impacted by high levels of total dissolved solids."
