On July 1, 2011, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation released its revised recommendations on fracking and drilling within the state. Several notable revisions include: a prohibition on fracking in the New York City and Syracuse watersheds, a ban on drilling within 500 feet of primary aquifers, a prohibition on the surface drilling of state-owned land, a requirement that producers disclose to the DEC all products and additives used in fracking, and rigorous controls for the fracking of private lands.
