On June 4, the Boulder City Council unanimously approved a
one year moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, which will block oil and gas
drilling permits in the city and on Boulder-owned open space properties. While
residents asked for a longer ban, City Attorney Tom Carr commented that a one
year ban was the safest option to avoid challenges to the city’s regulatory
powers.
