North Carolina overrules Governor’s veto of new Natural Gas Bill on July 2.

The North Carolina Legislature narrowly overrode the Governor’s veto by the required 3/5 majority. The bill passed in the Senate by a vote of 29-13 and the in House by a vote of 72-47. The law authorizes permits to be issued for fracking and horizontal drilling for natural gas. In addition, it has provisions meant to help protect individual landowners and public property that is leased to natural gas drilling.
