Peters Township, PA to Vote on Drilling Ban

An October 3, 2011 ruling from a Washington County judge will give voters the opportunity to amend the Peters Township Home Rule Charter and ban the drilling of gas wells.   The township sought an injunction against adding the referendum to the voting ballots for fear of being sued by gas companies and violating the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Act.  However, Judge Paul Pozonsky denied the Township's request because "the court lack's jurisdiction to rule on pre-election challenges without an immediate harm caused by the presence of the measure on the ballot." The referendum will appear on the ballots for the Peters Township election scheduled for November 8, 2011.
